Is Modern Medicine The Only Way To Treat Illness or Injuries?

February 8, 2024 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

The short answer is no. Many other options exist when treating illnesses or injuries without using traditional medicine.

That being said, injuries that include fractures, breaks, or other internal damage done to the body may still require the use of modern medicine. However, maintaining a balanced lifestyle and using traditional medicine and modalities may be enough to keep you healthy.

At SOHMA Integrative Medicine in Long Beach, CA, we take a holistic approach to balance. We are incorporating therapies like acupuncture, chiropractic adjustments, and physical therapy. Using this strategy, we combine Eastern and Western medicine to help people get out of pain into balance and back to play.

Today, we’ll go over four excellent therapies that can help treat illnesses or injuries.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic adjustments have been used to help patients manage pain and improve overall health. While typical chiropractic care is used to help people from suffering back pain, it has also shown positive results when used to treat other pains. Knee pain is joint in many people, especially older adults. Chiropractic care has led to the management of pain and increased mobility. Chiropractic care can also be beneficial for individuals experiencing migraines or tension headaches. It can alleviate tension in the neck and back, which can contribute to pain. Focusing on loosening tight muscles promotes relaxation, potentially relieving the discomfort associated with these conditions.

Myer’s Cocktail IV Therapy

Nutrient balance is important for day-to-day activities. However, it’s not uncommon for people to unintentionally miss the mark on their nutritional intake. Lacking crucial vitamins and minerals can result in several symptoms, including:

  • Lack Of Energy
  • Poor Mood
  • Headaches
  • Increased Anxiety
  • Insomnia

If left unchecked, Some of these can become chronic, leading to further complications. Myer’s cocktail IV therapy provides your body with essential vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, B Complex, Magnesium, and Calcium. This perfectly crafted blend of nutrients has been shown to benefit patients suffering from respiratory problems, migraines, mental health issues, and fatigue. Eating a balanced diet is essential to support the body’s natural healing processes. However, this can be difficult for many people as sometimes their schedules don’t allow it.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is an effective way of treating many physical conditions. Frequently, people relate physical therapy with athletes recovering from injury or a form of recovery after a vehicular accident. However, physical therapy has been used successfully on patients of all ages and backgrounds. It has been used to treat physical ailments and manage pain. Conditions like muscular dystrophy can be treated with mobility exercise, whereas carpal tunnel syndrome, which affects many office workers, can be managed through stretches and better habits.

In the event surgery is required, physical therapy can be of great assistance. For both pre-surgery and post-surgery, physical therapy can help you to prepare and recover. In preparation for surgery, physical therapy can be used to strengthen the body. After surgery, physical therapy can ensure the body heals appropriately while avoiding the development of scar tissue.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

For those suffering from a herniated or “bulging” disc, non-surgical spinal decompression therapy can help to gently re-align the spine without the need for surgeries. Back surgeries can not only be expensive. They are usually seen as dangerous and as a last resort.

A spinal traction machine works by gently stretching and relaxing your spine. This has a number of benefits, as it not only helps with the spine itself. The stretching and relaxing of the back also helps to alleviate tension in your nerves and muscles. This can help to manage chronic pain and improve overall wellness.
