Welcome to SOHMA’s Tai Chi Chuan Page. Our master instructors offer free Tai Chi Chuan classes in the Long Beach area, as well as private lessons at various community organizations and businesses. In fact, we offer one of the largest outdoor Tai Chi classes in Long Beach, attracting students from surrounding communities, such as Lakewood, Signal Hill, Cerritos, Seal Beach, Bixby Knolls, Bellflower, Belmont Heights, Naples, and other areas.
In addition to our class offerings, we utilize the healing aspects of Tai Chi Chuan and other martial arts in physio-therapies at our integrative health clinic. This ensures that we are able to enhance rehabilitation, self-discipline, and harmony for our patients and our community.
Tai Chi is a slow moving internal martial art that helps improve our balance and health in many ways. At SOHMA, we teach and practice Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan form set 24. This is the Chinese national workout, as well as the most popular Tai Chi style practiced worldwide. We now include the famous 8-Brocades (Ba Duan Jin) Qi Gong exercises in our warm up section, and offer lessons in Tai Chi Chuan weapons forms, including sword and fan.
We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes. Practicing barefoot is optional for those that want to strengthen their connection/ground to the Earth. You can also watch our at-home instruction videos to deepen your experience.
We offer FREE Tai Chi Chuan classes in Long Beach, California, on Sundays, 9:30 am to 10:30 am, at Hilltop Park, 2351 Dawson Avenue, Signal Hill, California. No RSVP required and this class is great for beginners as well as for people with Tai Chi Chuan experience. Everyone is welcome including children and seniors.
We are excited to partner with the Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine, the 3rd District Councilwoman Suzie Price, & 4th District Councilman Daryl Supernaw to offer a FREE Mindful Aging Series Tai Chi Class. Long Beach residents are welcome to joinus for an opportunity to strengthen your mind, body, and spirit. This class will take place Fridays, April 14 – May 19, 2017, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. We partnered with Cal State University Long Beach to offer an at-home Tai Chi Chuan video series, “Tai Chi for beginners”.
